Bronwyn Averett

This is, quite simply, one of my favourite projects, which I created and produced in collaboration with fellow writer and literary enthusiast Sufia Duez.

We began with a question: “How could we bring the process of writing to life, for an audience, as a kind of performance?” We wanted to invite audience members into the feeling of creation, enjoying the unique confluence of words that come together in real time.

For each performance, we asked a series of writers (of various genres) to have their writing projected, live, on screen, one at a time. Their pieces usually began with text prompts.

During their writing session, a musician (or group) would improvise throughout.

The strange coincidences of emotion and structures were fascinating to watch. One of my favourite moments involved the audience waiting and watching while a poet hesitated, back and forth, between a comma and a period.
