Miroir Miroir
Concept Development, Experience Texts
Inspired by the human mind . . .
This project went through several iterations over the years but the one thing that remained constant was the desire to express a kind of portal into another world — one that vaguely (or closely) resembled a dream, and that invited visitors to activate their own imaginations. To “get lost, get found” and “step into the stream of consciousness.”
As a writer and concept developer, I find that we often have a desire not just to elicit emotion and incite inspiration through these experiences, but to also give people a feeling of what it’s like to live within a creative process. There’s something about our minds being lit up by exploration that makes us want to share the feeling.
“Where do you go when you’re lost in thought? Where do you go in your dreams?”
What’s your fortune?
A key feature of this immersive experience was an interactive piece that invited visitors to generate a certain symbol and “card” with their actions. From this, they chose a real matching card, with a fortune, to take home and reflect on.
My role in this project was to support the concept development with research & creative ideation. I also wrote all texts in English and supervised French translations (both those within the experience and marketing initiatives). The Montreal première of Miroir Miroir was supported by the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal and the Ministère de l’Économie, de l’Innovation et de l’Énergie, and produced in collaboration with Fever. Creative Direction: Marie Belzil w/ Sakchin Besette. Art Direction: Catherine D’Amours. Interactive & Multimedia Direction: Sophie Midavaine. The project was realized with an incredible interdisciplinary team (that has grown) and has since gone on to feature in the Illuminate Adelaide Festival (2023) and to show in Calgary at the Eaton Centre (2024).
