Creative Concept, Experience Texts, Voiceover

This project began with a series of creative workshops that brought together an interdisciplinary team, whose expertise included lighting design, soundscape and music, set design, and motion design. We were primarily inspired by the concept of syntony, defined as “the state of being responsive to and in harmony with the environment.”

We thought a lot about those moments in which, for example, you might experience a personal crisis and through sheer coincidence (or is it…) a thunderstorm breaks on the horizon. Or a state of utter piece in your own mental weather, that is echoed in the sunny haze of a spring day… The moments in which the inner and outer worlds seem to synchronize.

A small team from Moment Factory was asked by the Illuminate Adelaide Festival to create an immersive experience of six multimedia installations, to be presented at the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. In the very beginning of the creative process, I wrote six original poems, inspired by the themes, memories, stories, and creative reflections we had shared. While these were written as a kind of “creative alignment” exercise to help ground the design process for each installation in certain themes and ideas, they evolved into voiceover texts that visitors heard before entering each installation zone. These served as a form of brief meditation, inviting reflection and inspiration before engaging with the multimedia.
